Cami and Mikael

geektastic08:

Re-watching their scenes in 2x05 and they were really good. Props to Sebastian for bringing some depth to a character that could be generic.

Please refresh my memory if this is wrong but has Mikael ever given anyone a compliment? Because that’s what he basically did with Cami by the end of the episode.

I feel that in his own way Mikael approves of Cami. She gained his respect: he went from calling her “an enabler of the weak” to a warrior. He changed his mind about Cami in an incredibly short time span when he hasn’t changed his mind about killing someone he’s raised in a thousand years. She went from the “enabler of the weak” and the “Bitch” to Klaus’ cur, to a warrior.

Cami has (unknowingly) done something that no one else on TO (except maybe Elijah and Rebekah) has: earned Mikael’s respect. She earned it within a few hours whereas Davina  hasn’t in the months she kept him under her control, and Klaus certainly hasn’t in a thousand years.

The vampire who hunts vampires respects Camille O’Connell, a human. She’s gotten his respect where a powerful witch, vampires, and werewolves can’t.

Klaus’ worst enemy, from his own mouth, in his own way, has some respect for Cami, the brave bartender.

Camille Appreciation Week 14- Day 3 Favorite Cami Relationship: Cami and Father Kieran

geektastic08:

This relationship is overlooked. I think the writers did a good job establishing Cami and Kieran, to say that they were just going to kill him off later in the season.

Even still this was a good relationship because it ties in directly to one of the themes of The Originals: family. Kieran is the person Cami was vulnerable with and shared her emotions before Klaus came along. He’s the first person she tells when she thought around Klaus’ compulsion or felt like something was off with her behavior. They have a good relationship and she trusts him fully which is why she’s so angry when she found out that he knew everything the whole time. Of course Kieran just tried to protect Cami the best way he could, by trying to keep her ignorant and trying to send her away. All the while you could tell how much he hated lying to her, and he knew how much she wanted answers but he put her safety first.

So then Cami finds out and she had a right to be mad, this puts a strain on their relationship. Then he gets hexed and she’s immediately worried; even though he begs her to leave him alone she swears she won’t leave him, and she doesn’t (so much for Cami not being loyal *insert eyeroll*).

I think she had already forgiven Kieran before he got hexed but was still a little hurt. She reveals her worries about the hex to Klaus, she doesn’t want Kieran to die, it’s even more frightening for her because it’s the same way Sean died. Once again she’d have family  killed in the same manner and would be powerless to stop it, the only difference is this time she’d witness it firsthand. She didn’t want to keep fighting with him and Klaus tells her what she already knows: her uncle’s a good man and was trying to protect her.

Cami puts Kieran’s sanity in the hands of someone she trusts: Klaus, and decides it’s better to side with him than take the witches’ offer, but Klaus’ compulsion doesn’t work.

Over the next few months Cami tries every non-supernatural thing to get rid of the hex. She tries pills, meditation, etc. She even puts down her pride and goes to Genevieve to ask her to remove the hex, even telling the witch she knows she has no reason to help her. That doesn’t work so she resorts to letting Josh compel a doctor to come help Kieran. When the doctor begged her not to do shock therapy she did it herself with no hesitation.

Cami continued to try to do everything she knew to help her uncle. She asked for help but no one helped her and told her it was futile. Did she boohoo, breakdown, and decide to give up? NO she fought for him until the end. She would have kept going at it alone if Marcel hadn’t asked Klaus to go help her. She stayed by his side through his mental deterioration, and didn’t stop even when he attacked her.

Cami would never have stopped, she refused to believe that it would end like that for her uncle, even when Klaus tried to gently tell her that it was close to the end for him. Once she accepts that she makes the jarring decision for Klaus to turn him, only because she doesn’t want his last moments to be of agony and craziness.

Now I want to point out how closed up Cami is emotionally. She puts on a tough skin and doesn’t like to open up to people about herself. She spent months in NO and Klaus is the first person she opened up to about Sean. She even seems shocked she told him since later she says “That’s right I told you what happened. I never tell anyonebut I told you.” Like I said earlier: Kieran was the only other person she talked to about Sean. Cami never shows how she feels when it’s something close to her heart.

Yet now in this episode we see her tearing up, breaking down because she knows she’s about to lose another family member in a short amount of time. Her worst fear realized and we see the realization coming down on her. We see some cracks in her walls, Cami’s frightened and she doesn’t want to be alone so she asks Klaus to stay.

When Kieran wakes up in transition him and his niece have one last heart to heart, saying goodbye. This time when Kieran asks her to turn around and not come back, she listens but still stays in the church. When he emerges from the attic you see the hope in her eyes as she’s filled with hope asking him if he changed his mind. She quickly sees the hex has returned and tries to outrun him but in vain. Klaus shows up and saves her life, snapping Kieran’s neck. He silently asks her if she wants him to kill him and dejected Cami nods her approval.

After that she just lays her head on the ground. Cami has nothing left, she’s broken emotionally, physically battered, and just tired from fighting for Kieran all of those months. She’s probably depressed because she feels it was all in vain, in the end she couldn’t help the person she loved most and lost them. We see her weeping with Marcel comforting her at the end of the episode.

In 1x20 the calm demeanor is back but Cami expresses irritation at people celebrating when her uncle just passed. She also looks somber as she’s marching in his burial procession.

What’s important about their relationship is that they both had each other’s back. In season 1 a midst all of the family drama, betrayals, going behind each other’s back, trying to bring each other down: we have a family relationship that has two people who have lost a loved one, and have forgiven each other moving past any transgressions. They just wanted what’s best for each other and protected each other. It’s sad and tragic the way Father K’s story had to end, he deserved so much better.

Now: kind of OT, but to everyone who keeps saying “Why is Cami in NO? She has no reason to stay! Why doesn’t she leave?!” I call BS.

She has just as much reason (if not more) to stay as everyone else in NO: family. (Or do different rules apply because Cami’s a human? *insert second eyeroll*)

She discovered that her family has been leaders of the supernatural community for a long time. It’s brought home even more when she figured out Kieran was going to train Sean to be a part of the human faction. Now in addition to wanting to stay because of Davina, Klaus, Josh, Marcel, etc. she wants to try to uphold the O’Connell legacy. She wants to follow in her Uncle’s footsteps and make him proud. She’s already lamented over trying to fight it and feeling guilty because had she embraced it sooner Hope would still be alive.

Really, her family ties parallel Hayley’s: both have come from a line of people who have history in NO and they want to uphold the family legacy.

Following in his footsteps, Cami will feel closer to Kieran and it’s a way to keep his memory alive, by fighting for what he stood for and inheriting his position as human faction leader.

Camille O'Connell Appreciation Week- Day 1 Favorite Camille Episode

geektastic08:

Impossible, she’s had a lot of great episodes. It comes close, but 2x05 The Red Door slightly edges out the rest.

In this episode we have Cami, a regular human, standing up to Mikael, the vampire who hunts vampires, not for her survival, not to beg him to let her go, but standing up for Klaus. She called him out and said what Klaus’ fans have been saying since Mikael was introduced: “You hate someone who’s fatal flaw is that he wasn’t fathered by you.” Then she straight up called him crazy haha, you go girl! She struck a chord and he fed off her for it. That scene is truly a testament to Leah and Sebastian’s acting chops,  this is what a  between scene two good, strong actors looks like.

Then we have the Mikael vs. Klaus fight. She lets out a heartbreaking “No!” as he’s stabbed. You can hear the pain in her voice, she doesn’t want Klaus dead, not because she’s thinking of the millions of lives attached to him, but because she cares just about him. Right after she screams she automatically runs over to try to help. Keep in mind Cami has just been fed off of and is physically weak, yet she still runs over trying to attacki Mikael and gets the ultimate backhand slap knocking her down yet again, and is forced to watch him die. Leah’s eyes are perfect as she watches the life fade out of him.  Her eyes are filled with tears and she’s distressed, once again she’s just thinking of how much she’d miss this man. She doesn’t want to lose someone else she cares about. After Father Kieran, Klaus is the person she’s closest to on the show. He knows her vulnerabilities, she has the deepest connection with him than any other character.

Can we all applaud Cami for not running away to save her own skin and sticking around trying to help Klaus?

Once Mikael says Klaus isn’t dead and runs off she crawls over to Klaus, although I’m sure she’s in a lot of pain and uses her last strength to pull the stake out. Let us applaud Cami again for not hesitating to do that, she didn’t break down and boohoo, she saw that she could save Klaus and she took the chance. She saved Klaus’ life. Cami saved Klaus’ life, a human saved Klaus’ life.

This is big because Cami’s the most vulnerable one. She’s normal, she’s human, she has virtually no defense against these supernatural creatures. Yet it’s an ordinary person who saves the almighty hybrid. We always expect someone to save Cami (Marcel, Davina, etc.) because of this but in this episode she saved one of the strongest creatures in the universe. I was surprised because this is Klaus we’re talking about! He only has one weapon that could kill him, who expected Cami to save him? I know I didn’t.

Next we have Cami watching over his weak body, threatening to kill Mikael if he didn’t say away. You see the fire and determination in this woman’s eyes. She was willing to face death to protect Klaus, she would go down fighting for Klaus. Even Mikael remarked on it saying she has a warrior’s heart. This is Mikael, who hates everyone, respects no one, and only admires strength. In 2x04 he called Davina weak but now he’s telling Cami she’s a warrior (someone has Daddy Mikael’s approval).

Then to top this episode off, Cami apologizes. TO EVERYONE WHO RAGGED ON CAMI FOR GIVING KLAUS THE WRONG ADVICE, HERE THIS WOMAN APOLOGIZED AND ADMITTED SHE WAS WRONG. I’m sorry, but what more do you want in a character?? It’s refreshing to have a humble character who doesn’t mind admitting that they were wrong. She knew Klaus died because he chose to save her and she paid him back by being willing to sacrifice her life for him.

This episode is perfect for Cami because she stood up to the most feared creature in the TO universe, Mikael, earned his respect, was willing to die for Klaus, and apologized.

Of course another huge development is that we find that Klaus and Cami love each other. Yes haters I said it: KLAUS AND CAMI LOVE EACH OTHER.  You do not instinctively lay down you own life for someone, with nothing to gain from it for someone you do not love. They both owe each other their lives and neither of them will forget it anytime soon. When the situation had the worst possible outcome they were there for each other.

Any personal doubts I had about her feelings for him were put to rest. That woman would have been broken if Klaus’ death was permanent. She wasn’t thinking of how Marcel, Josh, and Klaus’ sire line would die too. She was thinking about Klaus, and how she didn’t want another loved one taken away from her. Cami proved that she’s loyal, and willing to die for Klaus. She may not have said the words “I love you”, but we all know actions speak louder than words anyway.

elementarymydearmikaelson:

tbh I get annoyed when people complain about Cami’s need to talk when she should be fighting. I’m sorry, but Cami is facing off against supernatural creatures up to 1000 years old with strength to dwarf hers ten fold, or magic powers, or both. She has no chance physically against these people, and she’s smart enough to realise that. But she does have her own strength: her words. She uses her intellect, her education and her psychological academia to try and keep these people from killing her, uses their own hamartias against them and forcing them to take a good head look at themselves. And it works.
